Both iOS and Android

  • Live Picture-in-Picture (PiP) now works when you use gestures to control your device.

  • You can now use the same date format throughout the app and in your system settings.

Android

  • Letterbox improvements

    The user interface of the XProtect Mobile client app is now restricted to a certain width to maintain its original aspect ratio, preventing distortion or stretching on larger screens. The results is that you get blank areas on the sides, known as letterboxing.

  • Segmented buttons

    The drop-down menus have been replaced with segmented buttons for easier navigation and design consistency across Android and iOS. Segmented buttons are now used in:

    • Access control
    • Bookmarks (your choice of using either My bookmarks or All bookmarks) are remembered from your previous sessions).
    • Alarms
    • Investigations.

    Access control notifications

    If you have switched off notifications, you now get a warning message when you're in the access control screen.

iOS

  • Timestamps

    For consistency, the XProtect Mobile client app now follows the phone's timestamp format.

  • Letterbox Improvements

    Similar enhancements to those made on Android.

For Android users

  • The navigation bar has moved to the bottom of the screen to match recent Android design updates.

For Android and iOS users

  • The Access requests tab on the Access control tab has been renamed Requests.

  • You can now see a notification for new alarms on the alarm icon in the alarm tab on both iOS and Android. The notification alerts operators on the go to check alarms and take appropriate action. Operators must have permissions and access to alarms and to receive notifications.

For Android and iOS users

  • On tablets, you can now change the grid layout to adjust how the app visually represents the cameras by changing the grid layout for cameras to one, two, or three columns.

Alarms on smart map:

  • On a smart map, you can now see the new alarms associated with the cameras and view the alarms' details. This feature is only available in certain XProtect VMS products. Alarms:

  • The Emergency Alert feature enables you to receive alarm notifications of the highest severity level when a potential threat is detected, view the alarm details, and immediately act. To save time, you can acknowledge this type of alarm directly on the alarm details screen. For more information, see Emergency Alert in XProtect Mobile.
  • You can now play the video from the source camera directly on the alarm details screen. For more information, see View an alarm and take action.

For Android users

Field of view of the cameras on Smart Map:

  • On the smart map, you can now see the width and depth of the camera field of view. The field of view of the camera icon reflects the field of view of the actual camera and shows the area covered by this particular camera. For more information, see Smart Map in XProtect Mobile client (usage).

For Android and iOS users

Share live video:

Location on Smart Map:

  • To easily find and view video from the cameras closest to you, you can now see your current location on the smart map. This feature is only available in certain XProtect VMS products. Grid view with all cameras visible on Smart Map:

  • You can now watch live video in a grid view with all cameras in the area that is visible on the smart map. This feature is only available in certain XProtect VMS products. For Android and iOS users

Smart Map in XProtect Mobile:

  • You can now view and access devices (for example, cameras) of your VMS at multiple locations worldwide through your mobile device. This feature is only available in certain XProtect VMS products. Share bookmarks:

  • You can now share bookmarks while using the XProtect Mobile app to collaborate easily and faster with your co-workers (see Bookmarks (usage)).

For Android users

Background picture-in-picture (PiP) mode:

  • With the background picture-in-picture mode, you can continue viewing live video while browsing other content on your mobile device (see Picture-in-picture (usage)).

Extended use of biometrics or device credentials:

  • To further improve the app security, you can use biometrics or your device credentials before you edit or delete a mobile server.

Screenshots are allowed:

  • While in the app, you can take screenshots using your mobile device’s power and volume-down buttons at the same time.

For Android and iOS users

Log in with an external IDP:

  • You can log in to the XProtect Mobile app using an external IDP. With this alternative login method you can be authorized to access the app without the required login credentials of a basic user or a Windows user. For more information, see External IDP and XProtect Mobile client (explained).

New user experience:

  • The login procedure splits into two:
    • On the Login screen, you can enter your user credentials or choose to log in with an external IDP. For more information, see Logging in and out.
  • The new user menu contains the following buttons and settings:

Using biometrics or device credentials to secure the app:

  • You can now use biometrics or your device credentials to verify your identity before you open the app. Quick authentication based on your fingerprint, facial recognition, or device credentials facilitates access to the XProtect Mobile client and improves the security of the app. For more information, see Using biometrics or device credentials to secure the app (explained).

Mobile device management (MDM):

  • The XProtect Mobile client now supports mobile device management (MDM). With MDM, you can manage and secure devices, apps, and data from a unified console. For more information, see Mobile device management (MDM) (explained).

Notifications:

  • To receive notifications, you are no longer required to save your user credentials. If you haven't saved your user credentials, you'll be prompted to enter your credentials or use your external IDP login method each time before you open a received notification.
  • To receive notifications, you must enable the notifications setting on the app level (Android), mobile device, and server level.

Bookmarks:

  • You can edit the start time, the event time, or the end time of bookmarks.
  • To find a specific bookmark, you can search and use filtering. There are three options for filtering bookmarks:
    • You can enter a keyword from the headline or description of the bookmark or enter the complete bookmark ID.
    • You can select specific cameras.
    • You can select a predefined time interval. You can also customize the time interval that you want to apply as a filter.

Video diagnostics overlay:

  • You can enable this setting to view the FPS (frames per second), the codec, the resolution, and the type of streaming of the video stream in the selected view. The feature displays the information as an overlay to the video and can help you to troubleshoot XProtect Mobile client issues related to the video stream and performance issues.

Direct streaming:

  • The feature is also available in XProtect Professional+ and XProtect Express+.

Adaptive streaming:

  • The feature is also available in XProtect Professional+ and XProtect Express+.
