In XProtect Smart Client 2020 R1
Saving searches:
- When you save a search, the selected cameras and timescope are always included. See Save searches
- System administrators can specify per role who can save, edit, and delete searches
- One window for finding and managing saved searches. See Find and open saved searches and Edit or delete saved searches
Desktop notifications for alarms:
- If enabled server-side, desktop notifications appear whenever alarms with certain priority levels occur in your VMS system
- Clicking a desktop notification takes you directly to the alarm window allowing you to quickly respond to the alarm. SeeResponding to alarms and FAQ: notifications
Improved camera indicators:
- The video stream indicators have been improved to more clearly indicate the type or status of a video stream
- The changed indicators help people with color blindness distinguish between the different indicators

Help system is linked to the new Milestone documentation portal:
- If your VMS system is online, the help system is linked directly to our new documentation portal. Here you can access all Milestone software manuals and guides, supported in multiple languages
- If your VMS system is disconnected from the Internet, the help system will open in offline mode
- To visit the portal, go to https://doc.milestonesys.com/
Security:
- Only system administrators can enable HTML scripting to prevent or have better control of operators' access to content that is potentially malicious
In XProtect Smart Client 2019 R3
New Search workspace:
- The search features have been improved and centralized in one place, the new Search tab. See Search tab (explained).
- Perform simple or advanced searches using search categories and filters. See Search for video.
- You can search for:
- Recordings within a certain period of time
- Recordings with motion, including smart searchA search feature that lets you find video with motion in one or more selected areas of recordings from one or more cameras.. See Search for video with motion
- Bookmarked incidents. See Search for video with bookmarks

- Save searches. See Managing searches

- The search results are actionable, so that you can:

XProtect Smart Client – Player has been aligned with the new search features in XProtect Smart Client:
- The Sequence Explorer tab has been replaced by the Search tab.

In XProtect Smart Client 2019 R2
Help system:
- You can make the help function unavailable to the operators. See Disable the help.

In XProtect Smart Client 2019 R1
Export: During export, you can include a 64-bit XProtect Smart Client – Player, which supports H.265 video compression.
New help system (F1):
- The content is organized according to where you are in the software usage life-cycle, for example Installation, Configuration, and Operation. See About this manual
- The connection between configuring and operating XProtect Smart Client is more transparent through links
- Improved terminology support: hover over terms to view their definitions
- Improved navigation: a breadcrumb bar always tells you where in the manual you are. When you open a topic, for example through Search, the table of contents immediately syncs up
- More dynamic and responsive look and feel, for example clickable thumbnail images
