Alert properties

LanguageEnglish

An alert contains the settings for sending it, as well as the conditions that must be met for it to be triggered and sent.

The alert is owned by the user who created it and cannot be reassigned. The alert owner can, however, add additional notification recipients.

General

You must select an alert profile and give your alert a name and a description. The name must be up to 50 characters long, and can contain only the following characters:

  • All upper and lower case letters

  • All numbers

  • Spaces

  • The following characters: . , ! ? : / ( ) _ -

Note

You cannot create a name that only consists of spaces.

Alert names do not need to be unique. You can have multiple alerts with the same name.

Category

The alert category defines how your alert is organized. Currently, there is only one category: Site health, but more may be added in the future.

Conditions

The conditions you define in your alerts determine which states of the selected element types (site, host, recording server, device, or device component) trigger an alert.

In the Conditions group, define what element type (site, host, recording server, device, or device component) you want to create a condition for and whether to include all elements of the same type or just one selected type. For example, you can create a condition for all recording servers on the site or for one or more selected recording servers.

If you choose to create a condition for a selected site, it will be applied to the site you are currently on (the site you opened the Site health page for).

Once you have defined the elements for which you want to create an alert condition, you must specify the state that triggers the alert and the minimum time the state must be registered before the alert is triggered. Different elements can have different states:

Severity

You must define a severity rank to the condition.

The severity ranking categorizes the alert's significance. Your organization is free to determine the severity ranks depending on your needs and policies.

Multiple conditions

You can create up to three conditions by clicking Add another condition. You can connect multiple conditions using the OR operator, in which case the system will send the alert if any of the defined conditions are met. If multiple alert conditions are met within a short period, the system will consolidate them into a single message.

Message

When you have defined at least one condition, you must define when to send the alert.

  • Always - the system will send the alert when the defined alert conditions are met.

  • Custom - the system will send the alert only within the defined time slot and on the selected weekdays. If you define a time slot, you must also set which UTC time zone you are in. The defined time slot will respect your defined time zone. Alerts triggered outside the defined day and time slot will not be sent. If the defined day and time slot permit sending alerts and the alert conditions are still met, an alert will be sent.

Recipients

In addition to the alert owner, you can add one or more email recipients to receive notifications when the alert is triggered.

When you add a recipient, a confirmation email is sent. The recipient must confirm they want to subscribe to alerts before they start receiving notifications.

Recipients do not need to be XProtect Remote Manager users and can unsubscribe from notifications at any time.
