Note

Available functionality depends on the system you are using. See: Milestone XProtect® Product Comparison Tool.

The Device tab lets you specify which devices users can view and interact within XProtect Smart Client. Permissions can be applied to individual devices or device groups.

Manage permissions for a device group

Select a device group to configure permissions for all devices in that group. Remember to save your changes afterward.

  • When a device is added to a group, it automatically inherits the permissions assigned to that group.

  • When a device is removed from a group, role permissions are removed automatically.

Clear individual device permissions

If your system was upgraded from an earlier version of XProtect, some devices will have permissions assigned directly to them.

You can remove permissions assigned directly to device members and instead manage access through device group inheritance.

  1. Right-click a device group.

  2. Select Clear Device Member Permissions.

  3. Save changes.

You can clear permissions for the entire device group hierarchy if desired.

Note

Overall Security permissions take precedence over device group permissions.

If a feature is denied at the Overall Security level, users cannot access it, regardless of the permissions assigned to the device or device group.

Manage permissions for a single device

Select an individual device to configure permissions only for that device.

Understand inherited permissions

Devices can be governed by more than one group. Permissions inherited from a device group are displayed in bold.

View effective permissions for a device

To find out where permissions are inherited from, right-click on the device name and click Show Effective Permissions. This will show you all the permissions applied to the device and where they originate from.
