Migrating the log server
About the migration
The log server migration copies existing log data from the log server to VictoriaLogs or your monitoring solution. It does not affect system configuration data and is optional.
If you do not migrate existing logs, historical log data remains in the log server and is removed automatically according to its retention settings.
Upgrade the system first
To avoid data loss, wait until all components have been upgraded before running the migration. During the upgrade:
Components that are not yet upgraded continue to send logs to the log server.
Upgraded components send logs to Server Logs.
Run the migration
On the log server computer, go to:
C:\Program Files\Milestone\XProtect Management Server\Tools\LogServerMigrationTool
Run:
VideoOS.LogServer.Migrate.exe
A console window opens briefly and then closes automatically. No progress information or confirmation message is displayed.
The absence of messages does not indicate an error. The migration tool runs without user interaction.
After the migration
After the migration is complete, historical log data from the log server is available together with newer log entries in Server Logs.
When you no longer need the log server, you can stop using it and allow the configured retention settings to remove any remaining log data.
