Migrating the log server
About the migration
The log server migration copies existing log data from the log server to Server Logs or your monitoring solution. It does not affect system configuration data and is optional.
If you do not migrate existing logs, historical log data remains in log server and is removed automatically according to its retention settings
Migrate the log server after you have upgraded all required XProtect system components. All components should send logs to VictoriaLogs or your monitoring solution.
Migrate the log server
While the upgrade is in progress:
Components that are not yet upgraded continue to send logs to the log server.
Upgraded components send logs to Server Logs.
To avoid data loss, do not migrate the log server before you have upgraded all system components.
On the log server computer, go to C:\Program Files\Milestone\XProtectManagement Server\Tools\LogServerMigrationTool and double-click on VideoOS.LogServer.Migrate.exe.
A console window opens briefly, then closes automatically. The tool does not display progress information or a confirmation message
The absence of messages does not indicate an error. The migration tool runs without user interaction.
After the migration
The existing log data from the log server is available together with newer log entries in Server Logs.
When you no longer need the log server, you can stop using it and allow retention settings to remove any remaining data.
