Before you start
Before you create a failover cluster for the Management Server, make sure the servers, database, and XProtect components are in place.
Prepare the host servers
You need at least two Windows Server hosts to create a failover cluster. As Windows Server Failover Clustering relies on a quorum where more than half the nodes must be running, consider using an odd number of nodes.
Make sure that:
All servers are part of the same Active Directory domain.
The servers can communicate with each other over the network.
You have local administrator access to all hosts.
The Failover Clustering feature is installed on every node. Learn more at Failover Clustering: Microsoft
Prepare SQL Server
All Management Server instances in the cluster must use the same SQL Server database.
The SQL Server instance must run on a separate server. It must not be hosted on any of the cluster nodes.
Before continuing, verify that all cluster nodes can connect to the SQL Server instance.
Install XProtect on all hosts
Install the required XProtect components on all cluster nodes:
Milestone XProtect Management Server
API Gateway
On the first host, select Let the installer create or recreate a database for the management server service.
On subsequent hosts, select Use an existing database and point to the database created on the first host.
Important
When assigning a system configuration password, use the same password on all nodes.
