After acknowledging an alarm, typically you assign it to someone who investigates what is going on. During that time, the alarm will be in the state In progress. After handling the alarm, you can close it.

Reasons and comments when closing an alarm

If a reason for closing an alarm is required, the Apply Reason form will be displayed, where you can select the reason. If a comment is required, you must also write a comment. Depending on your alarm settings, a default comment for the selected reason might be displayed in the Comment field. You can freely edit this comment, adding or removing information as you need.

Reasons and comments when closing multiple alarms

If you select and close multiple alarms, the alarm settings determine whether a reason and/or a comment is required for each alarm.

  • If an alarm does not require a reason or comment, that alarm will be closed without a reason or comment, regardless of what you specify in the Apply Reason form.

  • If any of the selected alarms require a reason, or a reason and a comment, the reason and comment you define in the Apply Reason form will be applied to all such alarms, including to alarms based on alarm definitions that only require a reason.

Tip

When selecting and closing multiple alarms at a time, and you know a reason for closing and a comment will be required, select only those alarms that are to share the same reason and comment.

Close an alarm

To close an alarm, in the Alarm List, do one of either:

  • Right-click the alarm and select Close.

  • Double-click the alarm, and in the State list, select Closed.
