OpenTelemetry Audit Logs

This section provides guidance on configuring Milestone XProtect VMS to export audit logs to one OpenTelemetry collector. The following examples will focus on a limited set of features that have been tested to work together in the OpenTelemetry collector:

  • Ingesting logs via HTTP using Protocol Buffers, secured with server certificates.

  • Validating incoming logs using bearer tokens against an Identity Provider (IDP) over HTTPS.

  • Enriching logs with metadata from validated bearer tokens.

  • Exporting logs to supported OTLP or SysLog backends over HTTPS.

  • Ensuring reliable log export using persistent queues and retry mechanisms.
