Management server failover (WSFC)

Prepare for the upgrade

Last Updated: 1 minute read

Before you upgrade a Management Server failover cluster, make sure you do the following:

  1. Clone all databases (except Log Server).

The upgrade is performed using the cloned database so that the structure can be modified without affecting the running system.

    • Create a backup and restore it to a new database.

    • After restoring the backup, update the logical file names in Database Properties to match the new database name. This helps ensure proper database maintenance.

    Tip

Keep the original database so you can roll back if something goes wrong during the upgrade.

  2. Determine if encryption must be disabled.

In a clustered setup, certificates typically include the cluster role address, but not the individual node names.

    Note

Certificate validation will fail during the upgrade if the certificate does not include the names of all cluster nodes. In this case, you must temporarily disable encryption until the upgrade is complete.

  3. Plan for system downtime.

Upgrading the final node requires system downtime. The duration depends on how long it takes to complete the upgrade and, if applicable, re-enable encryption.

You are now ready to start upgrading the cluster nodes.
