About Windows Failover Clustering
Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) is a Windows Server feature that provides fault tolerance and high availability for applications and services. If services stop running (or become unresponsive) on one node, WSFC can move those services to another node.
In this setup, the XProtect Management Server is installed on multiple nodes, but the Management Server services run on only one node at a time. If the active node fails or becomes slow, the services start on another node in the cluster.
What this guide covers
This guide describes a Management Server failover setup where:
Multiple Windows Server hosts (nodes) form a WSFC cluster.
XProtect Management Server is installed on each cluster node.
WSFC controls which node owns (runs) the Management Server and related services.
All Management Server installations use the same SQL Server database for system configuration.
Note
This guide also includes optional configuration steps for encrypted communication and for using an external identity provider (IDP) in a Management Server failover cluster. These steps are only required if they are relevant to your deployment.
