OpenTelemetry Collector service

The OpenTelemetry Collector is a required system component for Server Logs in the XProtect VMS 2026 R1 and later.

The XProtect server components send audit, system, and rule‑triggered logs using the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP). These logs are sent to the OpenTelemetry Collector, which processes the incoming log data and forwards it to the configured log storage.

By default, the collector forwards log data to VictoriaLogs. When configured, it can also forward logs to external logging or monitoring systems that support OTLP.

If the OpenTelemetry Collector is not running, Server Logs cannot be collected or forwarded.

The OpenTelemetry Collector runs as a separate service and is installed together with theXProtect VMS.
