Event server

The event server is a core XProtect component that centralizes the event handling, alarm management, messaging, and maps. The event server is part of the standard XProtect VMS installation. You can install the event server on the management server computer or on a separate computer in a larger or distributed system.

The management server and the event server share the same SQL Server database.

Key functions of the event server:

• It consolidates all system events in a single service. The event server also processes internal and external events, including generic and analytics events.

• It hosts the alarms, alarm logic, and alarm state, and handles the alarm database.

• It evaluates incoming events against alarm definitions and rule logic configured in XProtect Management Client.

• It handles real-time message communication between environments, including XProtect Smart Client, Management Client, the event server, and standalone services.

• It hosts maps configured in the system and used by XProtect Smart Client.

• With MIP SDK, you can install third-party integrations on the event server to access system events.
